Shelter for Shelter” returns May 9 to benefit YES to YOUTH – Montgomery County Youth Services

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The 3rd annual “Shelter for Shelter” event presented by Richmond Realty Group RE/MAX The Woodlands & Spring is set for Thursday, May 9, 2019. This fun and popular fundraiser, benefitting YES to YOUTH – Montgomery County Youth Services, will present an evening of fine food, wine, spirits, and entertainment from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at Mercedes-Benz of The Woodlands located at 16917 I-45, just north of Hwy. 242.

The event was created in 2017, by realtor Zach Richmond, who serves on the Board of Directors for YES to YOUTH – Montgomery County Youth Services, and his business partner (and mother-in-law), Marlys Mulkey with Richmond Realty Group RE/MAX The Woodlands & Spring.

“When I joined the board, I became increasingly passionate about the services this important non-profit provides for young people who are at risk,” explained Richmond. “We wanted our real estate group to spearhead a fundraising event for them. We sell houses – ‘shelter’ – which allows us to give back a percentage of our commission to YES to YOUTH’s temporary shelter home for youth. We thought a great name for a fundraiser would be ‘Shelter for Shelter’ and this successful event was launched three years ago.”

“We are excited to once again present this first-class event, which offers a relaxed vibe with great networking with local community and business leaders while supporting a very worthwhile cause,” continued Richmond.

YES to YOUTH is a non-profit organization (formally called Montgomery County Youth Services) that provides crisis counseling, shelter programs, prevention services and empowerment to young people to strengthen families, teach the youth that they are worth it, they deserve safety and security, and that they will succeed in life.

Services include individual, group and family mental health counseling; presentations and school counseling in crisis situations; suicide prevention for youth and families; BridgeWay Emergency Youth Shelter (for ages 10-17); street outreach for homeless teens; and Healthy Support Program for pregnant and parenting teens.

“The statistics are staggering,” noted Dannette Suding, CEO of YES to YOUTH – Montgomery County Youth Services. “Almost 40 percent of homeless people in the United States are under eighteen years of age, 187 Texas children are subjected to abuse daily, every year 6.6 million get referred to Child Protective Services, in the U.S. as many as 20,000 children are forced into sex trafficking networks every year, more children and young adults die from suicide than all other diseases combined, and the reality is all of this is a tremendous problem right here in Montgomery County.

“Currently we are having to turn away 100 kids each month who need shelter. We desperately depend on the support from the local community to serve our kids … who are our future. We urge you to attend our Shelter for Shelter event. These funds are being used to build additional shelter space for local abused, neglected, sex trafficked and homeless youth. We are here to save the lives of our youth. TOGETHER, we save lives.”

Individual tickets to Shelter for Shelter are $75. Registration closes May 9 and is available at
