“De-personalization involves removing items and themes from your home that are unique to you. The goal is to make a potential buyer feel not only welcome stepping into your house, but to also envision easily incorporating their own individual style into it,” she notes.

This involves:

• Removing personal photos of family, friends, vacations, etc.
• Decluttering and organizing.
• Taking out whatever you can part with and moving it to storage.
• Savvy re-positioning of existing furniture and accessories.
• Painting walls with a universally-appealing neutral color.

“Simply put, less is more; especially in small spaces. So, if it doesn’t add to the décor, then hide it away.”

And as a nod to security, Heather recommends hiding items and valuables that sticky fingers may fine attractive, such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, jewelry, and irreplaceable keepsakes.
